Adam's GTM Report

Ahrefs

Updated 2026-06-14

Singapore-based, bootstrapped SEO platform (~196 employees) extending from its crawler infrastructure into AEO/GEO. Recent releases: the Brand Radar AI-visibility index plus Custom Prompt Tracking, the free Firehose web-mentions API, official MCP across five AI clients, and Agent A, a standalone $99/month AI marketing agent.

Presence Score70~$149M rev, bootstrapped, dominant SEO; AEO bolt-on
Velocity Score62Steady; AEO is strong add-on not core focus
Agent Readiness ScoreMediumOfficial MCP plus mature API

Three scores, refreshed weekly from live market signals rather than a once-a-year analyst report. Presence is how established a vendor is in the market right now. Velocity is how fast they are shipping, raising, and winning customers. Agent Readiness is how easily your own agents can build on them through an API, MCP server, SDK, or CLI. Scores are relative across the vendors we track; the raw inputs ship in the downloadable dataset.

The Solution & Approach

Ahrefs is an SEO platform built on its own crawler infrastructure, with a classic surface of Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, and Rank Tracker. Starting in 2026 it extended into AEO/GEO with Brand Radar, an AI-visibility index that tracks brand mentions across six AI platforms, plus a Custom Prompt Tracking add-on and the free Firehose web-mentions API.

The category bet, stated by Tim Soulo, is that owning the crawler is a structural cost advantage over AI-visibility pure-plays. An April 2026 long-form piece positioned Brand Radar directly against Profound, framing Ahrefs' bootstrapped, infrastructure-first model as the smarter choice for AI-visibility measurement.

The direction points at automation. In May 2026 Ahrefs launched Agent A, a standalone $99/month AI marketing agent with full access to Ahrefs data that executes content, monitoring, and reporting workflows. By June it had turned Agent A on its own content, publishing a research series on AI citation patterns that the agent generates and updates monthly.

Best for

Teams already running Ahrefs for SEO who want AI-visibility tracking on the same crawler-backed data at a lower price point than the AEO pure-plays.

Pricing & trial

Public self-serve pricing from a free tier and a $29 Starter plan up to $1,499/year Enterprise, with the Brand Radar AI Index as a $199–$699/month add-on, Custom Prompts at $50–$250/month, and Agent A standalone at $99/month with a free one-month trial for existing customers. Pricing.

Agent Experience

How you build on this platform (or wire it into your own agents):

Surface Available Docs
API Yes docs
MCP Yes docs
SDK No
CLI No
llms.txt No

Strong build-on surface: an official remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) live across Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, and Copilot Studio on Lite and up, a public API on Standard and higher, plus the free Firehose web-mentions API, so its crawler data is directly agent-readable.
